Feature list
The key points for using GlyphGate are:
- New:New: GlyphGate makes web pages show up in browsers quite fast. Techniques are used to both compact and compress
the needed files (e.g. html, jpeg, gif, css and various font files) but also to embed such data rather than linking them to them from the html file.
Reduced number of files provides a great performance boost, especially on slow and long distance connections. Support for progressive rendering of
web pages, images and aggressive HTTP/1.1 caching techniques are also used to produce best possible performance. This is all based on current
standards, and are as such guaranteed to work with all modern web browsers.
- GlyphGate provides universal support for languages across browsers and platforms. This support
include all plane languages defined in Unicode 4, such as bi-directionalbi-directional and complex languages (e.g. Arabic and Indic) and language with very large alphabets (e.g. Chinese, Japanese and Korean).
- New:New: GlyphGate provides support for using most font formats (OpenType, TrueType, Type 1, Bitmap and
vector fonts) in popular browsers (>98% of all browsers in August 2009, according to wikipediawikipedia),
such as IE (Internet Explorer), Netscape Navigator, Firefox, Chrome, Safari on Windows, Macintosh, Linux and Solaris. While previous version of GlyphGate
with older version of these browsers required the used to install a small plugin, this is no longer the case. Any modern borwser with fairly complese CSS Level 2 support
include native web fonts support these days.
- GlyphGate web fonts are quite small and fast. GlyphGate uses a font format known as XCGF when producing web font data. This format
features a compression ration of 5-200 times5-200 times. A typical Chinese OpenType fonts that is 40MB in size would be
converted into a XCGF font that is 200KB200KB, making it usable as a web font on the Internet.
- GlyphGate is easy to install. An installation script/program guides administrators through the installation process.
- GlyphGate is easy to manage. Simply publish HTML 4.0 and CSS level 2 web pages with Unicode text on your web server. No extra processing of the pages is required.
- GlyphGate is available for IIS, Apache 1.3, Apache 2.0, Apache 2.2 on Windows.
- New:New: GlyphGate produces high quality pages, using typographical features like font smoothing/gray-scaling and kerning, as well
as text effects like
shadesshades,
edges and
outline.
NOTE: The samples above are not images. They are created with plain "css" code that the server will style for you. As such, it's very easy to for example give every single
section heading (e.g. H1 html tag) on web site a shadow. Just add the style code to a style sheet and you are done!
- GlyphGate has been tested for an extensive period of time to ensure stability and security. Further more, it is running as a separate application
from your web server. In the event that you should shut down GlyphGate, you'r web server will continue to do it's job without
slowing down. Conversly, you may shut down your web server without affect the GlyphGate application server.
