Feature list
The key points for using GlyphGate are:
- GlyphGate provides universal support for languages across browsers and platforms. This support
include all plane languages defined in Unicode 4, such as bi-directional and complex languages (e.g. Arabic and Indic) and language with very large alphabets (e.g. Chinese, Japanese and Korean).
- GlyphGate provides support for using most font formats (OpenType, TrueType, Type 1, Bitmap and
vector fonts) in popular browsers (>93% of all browsers, according to recent surveys),
such as Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator on Windows, Macintosh, Linux and Solaris.
- New: GlyphGate is fast. GlyphGate uses a font format known as XCGF when producing web font data. This format
features a compression ration of 5-200 times. A typical Chinese OpenType fonts that is 40MB in size would be
converted into a XCGF font that is 200KB, making it usable as a web font on the Internet.
Web fonts are download once and used by multiple pages on a site. The performace hit of the extra font data is thus negeltible, and is
in fact turned into a performance improvement as GlyphGate is able to reduce the size of web pages using the web fonts.
- GlyphGate is easy to install. An installation script/program guides administrators through the installation process.
- GlyphGate is easy to manage. Simply publish HTML 4.0 and CSS level 2 web pages with Unicode text on your server. No extra processing of the pages is required.
- GlyphGate is available for IIS, Apache 1.3, Apache 2.0, NES, iPlanet and SunONE on Windows, Mac OS X, Sun Solaris, Linux, FreeBSD and more.
- New: GlyphGate produces high quality pages, using typographical features like font smoothing/gray-scaling and kerning, as well
as text effects like
shades,
edges and
outline.
- GlyphGate is robust. It has been tested for an extensive period of time to ensure stability and security.
